The environment scholar’s visiting program was established in 2002. It was a generous gift to YIBS (Yale institute for Biosphere studies) by Edward Bass. He found that the program will surely attract or bring a number of visiting scholars to Yale dealing with the studies related to environment. With the help of these programs the scholars are expected to stay here and research along with the students or faculty for an extended period of time.

There would be a faculty council in YIBS for the scholars, who want to attend Yale. During their residence at the campus of Yale institute they will be presenting seminars and interact with research groups. They are also facilitated to participate in one or more number of academic programs of the YIBS.
Director Edward Bass is an environmentalist. He is keen to save the environment through various environmental practices. He had also made various praiseworthy efforts in the field of environmental development and its conservation.

He also actively participates in conservation, business and ranching activities. He has been the co-founder of the project biosphere 2. The project was established near Tucson, Arizona. It is a great environmental and earth conservation project. Here the detailed study and research work of the earth is done by the world’s top most scholars. Research, outreach and the place of the earth in the whole universe are some of the activities that are being dealt here.

Edward Bass invested around 200 million dollars on the project within the time duration of 1985 to 2007. The total investment was covering all the required things for the project like land, research houses and facilities that are to be provided to the research staff members. He has been the co-chairperson of the leadership council of school of forestry and environmental studies and former member of the university council.

Director Edward Bass is also the chairman of the world wildlife fund. He has been the founding trustee of phil-ecology trust. He serves as the committee of New York’s botanical garden and of botanical research institute. He has also been the leader in the renovation and redevelopment of Fort Worth. He has studied at the Yale College and has completed his schooling from the Yale school of architecture.

Edward is also a nominee of Golden Globe awards and currently spends his time either in Tribeca loft or Beverly Hills estate. A great deal of time is also spent in London and Paris cities

How often have you found yourself in conflict with a teammate because you see something one way and he/she sees them another? Perspective is a powerful phenomenon. The ancient fable of several blind men describing an elephant illustrates this well. Each was touching the elephant in different places and consequently their perspectives were radically different. The blind man touching the ears believed the elephant to be flexible and almost flat. Touching the elephant’s trunk lead one to certain knowledge that an elephant was like a snake. The legs, tusk and tail all gave a different perspective about the structure of the largest land mammal.

The dynamics of a team create similar differences in viewpoint. It is incumbent upon all team members to work at understanding their group’s ideas, positions and situations. Here are four ways to better align your perspective with your teammates.

1. Leave “your side” and visit ” their side.” “There are truths on this side of the Pyranees, which are falsehoods on the other”- Blaise Pascal. Do whatever you can to discover your teammate’s perspective. Listen to his/her goals, objectives and concerns. Read and study the source documents upon which they founded their position. Or figuratively cross the Pyranees and visit their place – their office, workspace or location. You may find this will be sufficient to alter your thinking. Understanding your teammate’s viewpoint and knowing what is trying to be accomplished will allow you to see they too have the team’s interest at heart.

2. Acknowledge the validity of your teammate’s viewpoint. “Chaos is a name for any order that produces confusion in our minds” – George Santayana. People’s personal experiences and belief systems are diverse and complex. What you initially see as chaotic may simply be the other person’s plan to reach the same goal. There can still be differences of opinion. Just because you initially see a solution a certain way doesn’t necessarily mean it is right. If you work to find the legitimacy of a teammate’s point of view, it will stretch your thinking and what seemed chaotic may begin to make sense.

3. Be aware of your attitude. “Is the glass half empty, half full, or twice as large as it needs to be?” – Author Unknown. When it comes to seeing things from another person’s point of view, attitude has a huge impact. It is much easier to see both sides of an issue when you are not particularly concerned about the outcome. It becomes much harder when you have a vested interest in it. When that’s the case, you may be more concerned with getting your way than making a way to connect with others. At the core is whether you are willing to change. When you don’t want to change, you see the glass in only one way. When you are willing to change, they can be seen all three ways – half empty, half full or twice as big as it should be.

4. See the advice of other teammates. “Eventually you realize that not all opposing viewpoints come from people who oppose you” – Robert Brault. The key to understanding your teammate is empathy. Empathy is the identification with and understanding of another’s situation, feelings, and motives. With empathy it becomes much easier to connect with a teammate’s point of view. Sometimes the easiest way to do this is to simply ask other teammates whose perspectives differ from what was discussed. It is in the sharing of ideas and the openness of your exchange that understanding begins to occur.

Arthur Schopenhauer, philosopher in the 19th century said, “Every man takes the limits of his own field of vision for the limits of the world.” Highly effective teams don’t limit themselves to one field of vision. To maximize helpfulness to your team learn how to understand your teammates’ points of view. If all members of the team practice this approach success is much more possible to attain.

This is a perennial problem for managers and business owners.

The solution can be to ask people to choose which project they want to work on.

Look for ways to get people enthusiastic about their job, find out what really interests them, find out what they really want to do and give them as much of that to do as you possibly can.

Hard skills can often be improved relatively easily and quickly, whereas motivation is much harder to promote.

Their hard, or technical, skills are important obviously, it’s no good hiring a salesperson who can’t close, or a developer who can’t code.

But if you hire someone or (even worse) partner with someone who can’t or won’t work as a team member, the payoff in terms of their skills had better be huge, because they will begin to drag the project in unexpected directions.

What people can do is often not nearly as important as we think it is. How they do what they do is what really adds value to a team.

So what does being a member of a team really mean?

In most peoples minds there is this idea that you have a leader running around getting everybody to work together to get what they want done.

Actually a healthy, productive team is more like an unspoken democracy with a shifting leadership.

By democracy I mean that the ‘leader’ is the one that everybody unconsciously ‘votes’ for at any given time.

This usually remains unspoken as team members recognise that leadership shifts naturally to the person who is currently most appropriate and effective.

To take this further, in a normal hierarchical organisation an effective manager would be one who has the ability and willingness to accept the leadership when no-one else is able to, or wants to. He or she then uses their skills to reframe the question or problem in such a way as to help the team get back on track.

To use a crude analogy, an effective manager is like a flywheel, or a battery, someone who is able to inject energy into a team or project at the moment when it begins to run out of momentum.

Just putting a bunch of smart people together won’t create a team; each individual needs to want to be a team player.

Get the team right at the beginning of a project and most obstacles will be dealt with easily and smoothly, it is people that make things happen.

Buying your mortgage online can be something that is fairly dangerous and maybe even a bit scary to do. You may want to be doubly careful as to who you deal with in regards to buying mortgage online. You may not always be able to tell who you are dealing with when making purchases and online scams are far from rare. However, despite the inherent risks that are present when dealing with online purchases there may still be some benefits to buying your mortgage online. As with most things the rates that are available for people to take advantage of online are much lower than if you were to acquire your mortgage through a brick and mortar type business. You may also be able to garner a discount from an online mortgage site in order to allow for a much more affordable policy.

There are different things that you will want to keep in mind when trying to learn how to find mortgages online. The first thing that you are sure to realize is that when shopping for things such as mortgages, loans and insurance you may be able to get a much better deal than some brick and mortar type locations due to the low overhead that they boast. Operating online reduces much of the cost of operating a traditional business, so the deals that are able to be offered to clients are much better than if they had visited their local loan agency.

When looking for a mortgage online you will want to make sure that you have some exact parameters as to what you are looking for in a policy. Being sure that you are making the right decision is of critical importance when finding mortgage deals, so you may want to check with a few land based lenders before making the decision to use an online mortgage lender.
